Andreas Almgren z rekordem Europy podczas 10k Valencia

The 10K Valencia Ibercaja 2026 has secured its place in the history of European road racing. Featuring new continental records, a Spanish national record, and impressive participation numbers, the event confirmed the legendary status of this course on the global running circuit.

European Records on the World’s Fastest Course

Eilish McColgan ustanowiła nowy rekord Europy na km podczas biegu w Walencji

This year’s edition proved exceptionally fast for runners from the Old Continent. Sweden’s Andreas Almgren broke his own European record, clocking a time of 26:45. This performance shaved eight seconds off his previous mark set in Valencia last year. Almgren led the race almost entirely on his own from the third kilometer mark, after the sole pacemaker dropped out.

In the women’s field, Great Britain’s Eilish McColgan reclaimed her position as the European leader. With a time of 30:08, she broke the previous record held by Jane Van Lent. This was McColgan’s debut on the Valencia course, which she described as spectacular, citing the incredible energy from the crowds.

African Dominance and a Host Nation Record

While the European records captured the headlines, the overall victories belonged to African athletes. The women’s race was won by Kenya’s Brenda Jepchirchir in 29:25, followed by Likina Amebaw (29:29) and Clara Chemtai Ndwia (29:49). In the men’s competition, Almgren was joined on the podium by Ethiopia’s Khairi Bejiga (26:51) and Kenya’s Victor Kipruto (27:17).

The host nation also had plenty to celebrate. Said Mechaal set a new Spanish national record, finishing with a time of 27:25. In total, more than 15,600 runners participated in the 10K and 5K distances, making this the largest edition in the event’s history.

Numbers Confirm Valencia’s Elite Status

The Valencia event once again proved it is the fastest road race in the world, delivering two European records, numerous national records, and a multitude of personal bests. Thanks to perfect organization and favorable conditions, athletes demonstrated once again that the limits of human performance continue to be pushed.
